Saturday, December 29th, 2007 (Lessons Learned)
Our first impression of Zambia was wrong. We stayed at a nice Guest Room. We had working toilets and hot showers daily. We were not deprived of pizza, as previously anticipated. While we stayed in Lusaka, the hot spot for modernization in Zambia, we also saw the rough aspects of life. If we left Zambia with just these impressions, we will still be missing something.
We are richer for our experience in beautiful Zambia because of the special natives. I've listed the lessons that we've learned from them:
- Having enormous patience.
- Demonstrating Friendliness – before any interaction, saying hello, how are you.
- Having time for families, visitors, and etc
- Appreciating the moment, not guaranteed otherwise. – Carpa Diem (Sieze the Day).
- Respecting nature and wild life.
- Using/Recycling all resources.
- Smiling and saying “don’t worry!” even when the chips are down.
- Being humble and taking a chance with progress as it is still in early stages here.
- Relying heavily on hands to provide special friendly shake, wood carvings, and to dance happily. See picture of the men carving artwork.
- Making presentation and service as an essential part of each meal. Even with the simplest meals.
Thank you for staying with our goofy blogs! We hope that our experiences have been a blessing. We appreciate all the love and support that we’ve received with our project. We could not have executed our mission without your prayers. We hope that you will also consider a mission trip in your future.
Many blessings and In His Service,
Nellie & Mark
Ps – stayed tuned for one more special blog with tribute to our donors once we return home. Also, we will insert pictures for the last three blogs. We ran out of time.
