As I'm basking in the irridescent lights on the Christmas tree, and in the snow village in my Family Room, I'm quickly reminded of the change of scenary that awaits us. The tropical, enchanting forests and rain will usher us into Africa in a few days. While we are excited about what is ahead, Mark and I also wonder at times if we are in over our heads. So far, we've survived the rigorous preparation: volumes of emails and phone calls, filing for Visa, arranging for travel and accomodations, getting pricked (several times), preparing for VBS program, initiating clothing drive for Orphanage, and now taking our first dose of prophylaxis against Malaria. Dealing with the unknowns seems to get our juices going.
For some reason, Hebrews chapter 11 - "The Faith chapter" keeps popping in my head today. All the patriarchs mentioned in the Faith Hall of Fame embarked on a journey that God laid out for them. In fact, some of them did not reach their final destination. This journey is about God being in the pilot seat. Our success in Africa is His success and our failures are also His. Mark and I have done our best preparing. Now, we are going to enjoy the trip.
We are going to have fun at the orphanage, and take in the beautiful Victoria Falls. We will have a chance to visit both a water and land game reserve. We look forward to laughing a lot in Zambia. We plan to smile when we face the customs. We will snicker as we bargain in the market. We will giggle when an interpretter interprets our Southern Drawl English to Zambian, British English at the orphanage. We will appeal for forgiveness with a baby smile, when we commit a cultural faux pas.
I am drawn back to the inviting, snow village in front of me. Soon, it will be replaced by a warm African village.
